Our Assistant Principal

Hello Druid Hills Academy Community,

I am Shamieka Heyward, and I am extremely excited to serve the Druid Hills community as the Assistant Principal this upcoming school year. I not only bring experience in education, student support, and school leadership, but also a deep commitment to fostering positive learning environments where all students can thrive.

I began my career in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as a middle school teacher, serving students at Bruns Academy K-8, Albemarle Road Middle School, and Ridge Road Middle School. My passion for supporting the whole child led me to pursue a career in social work, where I served as a School Social Worker at Governors' Village STEM Academy. Most recently, I served as Dean of Students at James Martin Middle School, where I focused on strengthening school culture, building positive relationships, and supporting student success through restorative practices and student-centered leadership.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from North Carolina A&T State University, a Graduate Certificate in Middle Grades Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, a Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Graduate Certificate in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Having spent six years serving in K-8 schools within Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, I am especially excited to return to the K-8 setting at Druid Hills Academy. I value strong partnerships with students, families, staff, and the community, and believe every child deserves a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

I look forward to working alongside the team at Druid Hills Academy to continue building a school community where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their fullest potential.
